The format is five evening lectures in town, and four weekends in the mountains. All incoming students are required to have taken an AIARE Level 1, or formally 

Students will describe and discuss weather, snowpack, and avalanche processes, and identify how these processes relate to observations and travel within avalanche terrain. The AIARE 2 is a three-day course for those who have taken an AIARE 1 and Avalanche Rescue and have had at least a year of backcountry travel experience. The first two days are online evening lectures followed by two days in the field. Our level 1 class covers a lot of information, so plan on long days that begin early and end in the early evening. Due to Covid, we are transitioning to the online learning AIARE module. For most groups, this will mean learning much of the didactic material of the course through self paced, online learning.
